PVR (Personal Video Recorder) is a feature that lets you record TV shows to watch later — similar to a classic decoder with a hard drive, but in a digital form accessible through an app.
How PVR Differs from Catch-Up TV
Catch-up TV, described in our article EPG, Catch-Up TV, and 4K Quality, lets you play back a show from the last few days without recording it in advance. PVR, on the other hand, requires deliberately scheduling a recording ahead of time — similar to traditional recording on a decoder.
Which Apps Support Recording
Not every player app offers a PVR feature — TiviMate Premium is one of the more popular examples of an app with this capability. Availability of recording depends both on the app and on whether the specific channel allows it.
When PVR Is Useful
If you know in advance you'll miss a specific show and want to make sure it's saved for longer than the standard 7-day catch-up window, PVR in a supporting app can be a better solution.
